Ty Beanie Boo Cake Recipe

Our home is teeming with tiny, furry creatures sporting those slightly unnerving big eyes. Our three daughters are absolute fanatics when it comes to Beanie Boos, and they're constantly adding to their collection, which has now reached quite an impressive number. It was clear as day that both twins wanted Beanie Boo-themed birthday cakes for their special day. One adores cats, while the other can't get enough of monkeys, so I decided to craft individual cakes featuring their favorite plushies. In the end, it turned out to be a surprisingly straightforward project, and the final results were a hit! ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/8e8bbf30ed7758e90e9111884f7e5028.jpg) For the two cakes, I started by preparing a large batch of cake batter using a Disney Frozen Birthday cake recipe. I split the mixture in half; into one half, I added cocoa powder, a teaspoon of orange extract, and some grated orange zest to create a chocolate orange flavor for the monkey cake. The other half got a teaspoon of vanilla essence. I baked these in a hemispherical cake tin, though you could easily use a regular round tin, and they'd still look fantastic. Additionally, I used a muffin tin to bake four smaller circular cakes for the monkey's ears and nose, as well as the cat's nose. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/42ea56cb5e679eff92fbdf2f027ec7ca.jpg) To make a Monkey Beanie Boo cake, here's what you'll need: - 1 round chocolate cake - 3 cupcakes with the tops sliced off - Chocolate buttercream icing - Vanilla buttercream icing - Liquorice Allsorts To assemble the Monkey Beanie Boo cake: - Shape the main cake into a monkey's face by forming two ear-sized circles and one larger circle at the bottom for the nose. - Use a spatula to spread the chocolate icing unevenly across the cake to mimic fur texture. - Create a lighter-colored area around the nose and add two round shapes for the eyes. - Stick on two yellow Liquorice Allsorts for the eyes. - For the finishing touch, pipe the nose and a smiley mouth using a thin piping nozzle. If I were to recreate this cake, I’d likely use fondant to cut out the face shape for a cleaner appearance. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/f599bec6e2f026940020191b57704515.jpg) For the Cat Beanie Boo cake, things got slightly trickier with the decoration: - Use a large round cake with a small circle of cake in the center for the nose. - Pipe vanilla buttercream onto the cake base and give it a fur-like texture using a star-shaped nozzle. - Apply the buttercream all over the cake, including the nose. - Craft two cat ears from fondant icing, mimicking the design of Muffin the Beanie Boo. - Attach two pink Liquorice Allsorts for the eyes and slice a pink jelly Liquorice Allsorts into the shape of a cat nose. - Roll out pink fondant into thin strips to form the mouth and whiskers. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/0f4699e7d3229f4b56ac1838dc1b6573.jpg) Muffin the cat couldn’t wait to take a bite of her cake! Surprisingly, decorating the cakes took less time than I anticipated. The Liquorice Allsorts gave the cakes a strikingly realistic appearance. Initially, I tried using a silver icing pen to add sparkle to the eyes, similar to a real Beanie Boo, but it didn’t enhance the overall look significantly. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/90759e23101fa4411e111de44a0727c0.jpg) The finished cakes perfectly captured the twins' personalities while maintaining a shared theme. However, you could easily make just one cake if preferred. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/360d273d61dd6c53096909b160cbca35.jpg) In summary, the cakes were absolutely adorable, and the girls adored them. We’re definitely planning to bake these again! ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/d8df6b683818413ff1ffc322a099fb8c.jpg) The Beanie Boos even seemed to enjoy the cakes as much as the girls did. It was such a fun and rewarding experience to see their faces light up with joy!
