Ty Beanie Boo Cake Recipe

Our home is teeming with small, fuzzy creatures sporting those slightly eerie, oversized eyes. It's no surprise since all three of our girls are obsessed with Beanie Boos and have been diligently building quite the collection. As birthdays approached, it became evident that the twins would adore Beanie Boo-themed cakes. One adores cats, while the other has an affinity for monkeys, so I decided to craft individual cakes for each of them, inspired by their favorite plushies. To my delight, creating these cakes turned out to be simpler than anticipated. I started by doubling the recipe from a Disney Frozen cake recipe I found online. Then, I divided the batter, adding cocoa powder, orange essence, and grated zest to one half for a chocolate orange flavor, perfect for the monkey cake. For the cat cake, I kept it vanilla but added a hint of vanilla essence. Both cakes were baked in half-sphere tins, though a circular tin would work just as well. For the monkey cake, I shaped the base into a playful monkey face. Using a spatula, I applied chocolate buttercream to mimic fur, creating a textured look. I outlined the face with vanilla buttercream and added details like eyes with yellow liquorice Allsorts. A piping bag with a small nozzle completed the features with a nose and a cheerful mouth. The cat cake required a bit more finesse. I used fondant to create pointed ears and a small circle for the nose. Vanilla buttercream was piped all over the cake, giving it a fluffy appearance. Pink and black fondant icing shaped the facial features, with liquorice Allsorts forming the eyes and a cat-like nose. Thin strips of pink fondant created the whiskers and mouth. While liquorice Allsorts added authenticity, I experimented with a silver icing pen for sparkle but found it unnecessary. Decorating took less time than expected, and the results were delightful. The monkey cake exuded energy, while the cat cake had a softer charm, perfectly reflecting each twin's personality. The finished cakes stood as a testament to our shared joy—each one unique yet tied together by the Beanie Boo theme. Even the family pets seemed intrigued! These cakes not only satisfied sweet cravings but also brought us closer through creativity and fun. We’re already planning future iterations, perhaps tweaking the designs or trying new flavors. After all, every celebration deserves a touch of whimsy and love.
