Binding - book back quality problems and solutions

1. Book adhesive layer empty

The backing of the book's adhesive layer is mainly manifested by the obvious cellular holes and air bubbles at both ends of the book's head and feet. Pressing hard against the back of the book has a feeling of unevenness. The main causes of these quality problems are:

1 The milling cutter is not sharp, and the gap between the milling cutter and the inner wheel of the two squeeze wheels is too large, which makes the book appear convex at the end of the book during the milling and backing process, resulting in unevenness of the book back.

2 The level of the rubberizing wheel was improperly adjusted, making the glue on the glue layer uneven. The rubber wheel is too high and the back of the book is squeezed into a trumpet. The glue wheel is too low to make the rubber wheel lack a certain pressure on the back of the book, and the glue liquid is also difficult to apply evenly.

3 If the molding mechanism is not adjusted properly, the over-hugging of the molding mechanism will cause the back of the book to be glued to the top of the book. Too low the bond between the cover and the back of the book will cause the backing of the book to become empty.

The exclusion method is:

1 Check whether the milling cutter is sharp or not. Adjust the gap between the inner wheel of the squeezing wheel and the milling cutter to be between 0.1-0.1 5mm.

2 Adjust the thickness of rubber wheel and adhesive layer.

3 Adjust the height of the molding mechanism, and adjust the thickness and softness of the book cover.

2. Book cover wrinkles, bumps, round back, book back too high

These problems are factors that directly affect the firmness and aesthetic appearance of books. The main reason for these problems is that the height of the milling cutter is not consistent with the positioning height of the hitting and forming mechanism. The supporting of the hitting and forming mechanism is inconsistent with the time of clamping, the components of the hitting mechanism are worn, and the rubber wheel is too high. The solution to these problems is to check whether the height of the milling cutter and the hitting and forming mechanism are the same. The inspection method is that the distance between the end of the milling cutter and the book clip should be kept at 12mm (the thickness of the hitting side is 10mm), and the bottom bracket and the bottom of the book clip should be at the highest point when the supporting mechanism is raised. The jaws should also be kept at 12mm. If improper adjustment will directly affect the molding quality of the back of the book, excessively high backing will cause the back of the book to wrinkle and rise, and the back of the book will be too high. Too low a backing will result in the back and back of the book.

Martini glued in the production line, often encounter a variety of different paper, such as newsprint, offset paper, coated paper. The pages of this book are compacted and uncompacted. The book covers are laminating and non-laminating, thick paper and thin paper, and hard and soft. Therefore, in the production process, it is necessary to adjust the supporting and clamping time of the hitting and forming mechanism according to different paper properties. Use book paper 52g/m2. Book thickness 20mm, cover paper 157g/m2 coated paper as an example, should pay attention to the following requirements when adjusting the machine:

1 After the books have been back-trimmed (appropriately 1.5mm in size), when the glue is applied, the gap between the first rubber wheel and the back of the book should be kept at 0.8mm, because the paper of the book block is thin and the books are thick. The rubber wheel is too high and it is easy to squeeze the back of the book into a trumpet shape. After the book is formed, the quality of the book back is unsightly, the back is high, and the backlash is high. The second rubber wheel and the back of the book should be kept at a clearance of 1.5-2mm. If the height is too high, the glue layer of the book cannot reach a certain thickness, and the book is not firm.

2 In the instant after the binding of the book and the cover, the supporting time should be adjusted to be slightly faster than that of the solid, because the book is thicker. Otherwise, the backlash, wrinkling, or concave appearance of the book may occur. This adjustment method is limited to Martini NBS Binder, not including other models and disc machines, and other models and disc machines have other adjustment methods).

3 Serious abrasion of the hitting mechanism can also result in unsightly book formation on the back of the book. The binding forming mechanism of the bookbinding machine is the most critical mechanism for book forming and is an important link that directly affects the quality of the book. If the wear is serious, it will cause inconsistency in the shape of the back of the head and the head and the head. When the body of the supporting mechanism matches up and down about 3mm, the replacement of new parts should be considered so that the supporting organization can maintain a good running accuracy and ensure the quality of the book forming.
