Electrode use and preservation matters

As we all know, the biological oxygen analyzer is different from the general industrial or environmental measurement oxygen analyzer, it is a high-precision dissolved oxygen analyzer. Moreover, it requires users to have a high level of experimental research. Almost all researchers in the field of biological research and published literature express the above views. Biological oxygen analyzer plays an important role in biological research and can make many innovative achievements. The strict requirements for the use and storage of the instrument often discourage the average person. In fact, it is not difficult to master the use of biological oxygen analyzer, the key is to understand its use characteristics and accumulate its own experience. From the standpoint of the biological oxygen analyzer, it is divided into two parts: the host and the electrode. In use, the performance and operation of the host machine are as far as the current scientific and technical level is concerned, and there are no problems with domestic and foreign products. The problem is more of the electrode, and although the production of the electrode is strict, the products of each company are not much different. The use, storage and maintenance of the electrode is the key to the proficiency and success of using the biological oxygen analyzer. Since the electrode is an important sensor of the Yaxin-1151 biological oxygen analyzer, its proper use and maintenance are directly related to the normal function of the instrument and the accuracy and stability of the measurement data. Here, we introduce the daily use, preservation and maintenance of the electrode as follows for your reference: 1. The state of the electrode: the electrode in the customer's hand is generally in two states: the coated electrode (at this time, the electrode is usually in use, the electrode There is a membrane and KCI electrolyte on it), a bare electrode (the electrode is generally not in use for a long time, there is no membrane and KCL electrolyte on the electrode) Second, the use of the electrode: 1. Use of the bare electrode: the first time after the instrument is unpacked When in use, the electrode is uncoated before leaving the factory. Therefore, first of all, please read the relevant content in the "Product Operation Manual" carefully, and then strictly follow the requirements in the manual. 2. Use of covered electrode: Before each use, the electrode must be adjusted to zero and full to calibrate the instrument. If the zero and full adjustment are successful, you can directly enter the measurement. If the zero adjustment and full adjustment are not successful, the electrode should be polarized (for details, see the electrode polarization section in the Product Operation Manual). Repeated power on / off within one day, no need to repeat calibration (at room temperature). The temperature of the solution during calibration and measurement should not be too different (do not exceed ± 3 ° C). If the temperature difference is too large, it is recommended to use a constant temperature water bath. When measuring dissolved oxygen in water, the stirrer is required to stir evenly, and the rotating speed is generally 1200 rpm. Although the instrument can be powered by alternating current during the design of the instrument, the instrument's own battery must be used when making measurements to avoid unstable readings caused by possible interference caused by the use of alternating current. When polarizing the electrodes, alternating current can be used to save battery power. When the anode (silver ring) of the electrode is gray (black), it will cause unstable reading of oxygen concentration, and the reaction time will be longer. At this time, the electrode needs to be regenerated. Before regeneration, wash the anode of the electrode with distilled water, and absorb the water drops with filter paper and dry it. Polish it in parallel on sandpaper above 2000 mesh for 10-20 times, remove the black oxide layer, and then replace it with a new film. The regenerated electrode must be polarized before use. If the electrode is not used for a long time, part of the KCL electrolyte in the membrane will be lost or dried out. At this time, a new dissolved oxygen membrane must be replaced. 3. Preservation of the electrode: 1. Preservation of the bare electrode: use this method when not in use for a long time, remove the dissolved oxygen film on the electrode, rinse the electrode with distilled water and dry it, and store it in a plastic tape with a sealing strip , Squeeze the air and seal the bag. If possible, use a syringe to draw out air and seal, mainly to isolate the electrode from oxygen to avoid silver oxidation. 2. Preservation of covered electrode: This method is used when the electrode is frequently used, and the electrode can also be stored with a membrane. After the membrane electrode was washed with distilled water, the appropriate amount of distilled water was placed in the reaction cup, and the electrode was placed in the cup of distilled water and sealed. It is also necessary to prevent the growth of pollution and mold. Once it is found, the membrane must be replaced and polarized. Fourth, electrode maintenance: The metal parts of the electrode (silver ring, platinum core) should be protected from contamination by grease, sulfide, and other metals. The metal part of the electrode must not be scratched. Once it was found that the method of regeneration should be used to eliminate scratches. For covered electrodes, the surface of the film must not be contaminated or scratched. Once it is found, it is necessary to change the membrane again. In heavily polluted waters, after algae or microbe tests. It is best to make the film disposable. In order to avoid the growth of bacteria or microorganisms on the membrane and affect the future use.
