At present, there are four types of CTP-free materials:
1 Processing-free CTP plate material (Process-free, pfCTP). No additional processing is required after the plate is imaged, such as Presstek's Applause hot melt free processing CTP plate. In addition, some CTP plates made with switchable resin methods also belong to this type of plate.
2 Chemical-free CTP plate (Chemistry-free, cfCTP). It is not suitable for chemicals and does not produce common waste liquid. It can be printed on the machine after being washed with water. Presstek Anthem is an example.
3 Simple processing CTP plate material (Simple-process, spCTP). This type of plate requires some simple post-processing steps, such as gluing. It is a step ahead of the traditional chemical processing plate, but the processing liquid still contains certain chemicals, so some waste liquid must be generated.
4 Develop CTP plates (On-Press Developing, pdCTP) on the machine. When the imaged printing plate is installed on a printing machine for printing, the coating layer on the surface of the printing plate needs to be removed first. Kodak Polygon's Thermal Direct plate and Fujifilm's BrilliaLDNS thermal plate fall into this category.
