Development Status of Small-format Offset Press

Small-format offset press, as the name suggests, refers to a small-sized offset press with an effective print area of 520×360 (mm) or less. At present, the most popular A3 size offset press.

In the past 10 years, small offset presses have undergone many changes. In the early 1990s, the development of traditional small offset presses reached a peak. Lightweight monochrome multi-function offset presses became the main model in the short-run printing market. The installed capacity of the world is more than 10,000 units per year. During this period, there were more than 15 small offset presses in the world (excluding China). The most prominent manufacturers were Heidelberg in Germany, Ryobi in Japan, and Hamada.

Then a period of time, small format multi-color offset press began to develop, many manufacturers have come up with their own mature two-color and four-color small format offset press. After the mid-1990s, the market for small format offset presses changed dramatically. Many manufacturers were severely affected by the rapid development of the new technology revolution, especially the advances in computer technology, copying technology, scanning and printing technologies, and high-speed printers. High-speed copiers and digital all-in-ones are widely used in office light printing. They can copy prints for customers at high speed, convenience, cleanliness, and low cost. Lightweight monochrome offset presses have been hit in the international market. The sales volume of many small-format offset presses of many manufacturers declined, and some had to face restructuring or bankruptcy.

During the development of this small-format offset press in the past decade, only Heidelberg, Ryobi, and Hamada have maintained a certain degree of development. All three companies have transitioned from the original monochrome offset press to more than two colors. Multi-color offset printing presses and digital direct printing presses in the mechanism version.

Compared with the advanced technology in the world, the development of China's small offset press technology has not reduced its distance, but it has further expanded. Especially in the field of small offset presses, we have remained at the level of development of international small offset presses 10 years ago. In foreign countries, the scale of small-size monochrome offset press production is continuously shrinking, and the short-range rapid printing industry is developing toward the multi-color and high-automation of digital and traditional offset presses. However, our small offset press industry in China is still stuck in the single The development of low-level color machines, killing each other, rushing production, and scale, the number of manufacturers from the original 10 to 40, is the world's total number of small offset press manufacturers four times.

The technology of China's small offset presses comes from foreign countries. From history to now, no enterprise or research institute has been able to independently design and develop small offset presses. From 1976, Yingkou Guanhua (formerly known as Yingkou Copier Factory) produced the first small offset press in China, and the formation of the pattern of multi-variety, multi-standard, and diversified small offset presses has demonstrated our country’s uniqueness. The unique prosperity scene of the development of small offset press under historical conditions.

In China, there are a wide variety of small offset presses of various types. The source of their product technology can be divided into two major modes, the Japanese mode and the European and American modes.

Offset press technology comes from three sources:
The first channel is to purchase or introduce a full set of manufacturing technology (all drawings, complete assembly and commissioning inspection process, and also includes some special fixtures, fixtures, and equipment). This can only be achieved in China. Both Yingkou Guanhua and Weihai Haitian are established in China. factory.

The second channel is to only buy drawings and parts of products from abroad, but did not buy a complete assembly and commissioning inspection process and equipment. There are also two manufacturers in China.

The third channel is to purchase foreign prototypes, imitation of surveying and mapping drawings, or to copy and imitate the same manufacturers to obtain drawings through a variety of non-normal means of manufacturing.

Compared with the same type of small offset presses in developed countries in the world, in addition to the introduction of a full range of technology manufacturers such as Wei Haitian and Yingkou Guanhua, most of the small offset press products in China, regardless of the internal quality and performance stability In terms of sex, there is still a certain gap between the processing precision of the parts and the quality stability of the whole machine.

At present, small format offset presses in China can be divided into four categories: desktop offset presses, monochrome light offset presses, multifunction offset presses, and heavy commercial offset presses.

About Desktop Small Offset Presses:
Benchtop offset press is a desktop offset press with a very simple structure and low performance. The main purpose of the initial design is office use. In foreign countries, desktop offset presses are almost completely eliminated in foreign countries. Only Japan’s Eastern Airlines is still producing a small number of 820 desktop offset presses.

At present, at least eight companies in China are still producing small desktop offset presses.

About monochrome light offset presses:
Monochrome light small offset press is a kind of light monochrome printing small offset press with relatively simple structure (compared with pure commercial printing press), but with high quality print, good quality performance, high speed, and simple operation. The initial design was high-end office light printing, and some customers used short-run, fast monochrome commercial printing.

Only a few foreign manufacturers such as Japan's Ryobi, Hamada, Eastern Airlines and the United States' Aibodi are still producing light-colored monochrome offset presses.

There are only a few manufacturers and products that can produce light monochrome offset presses in China, of which the YK1800 series from Yingkou Guanhua still maintain a relatively large amount of production. From history to now, the light monochrome offset press has always been the absolute advantage of Yingkou Guanhua, and no one manufacturer can compete with Yingkou Guanhua. So far, Yingkou Guanhua 1800 offset press has put more than 20,000 units on the market.

About multi-functional small offset printing machine:
The multi-function small offset printing press is based on the light monochrome offset press and expands its functions in accordance with the needs of the printing market. For example, it can be used to implement the color printing function through the bridge, plus two-color printing head to realize the two-color printing function, and the number printing machine. To achieve the number (straight, horizontal), pressure line (straight, horizontal), resin printing, cutting and other functions, it can achieve high-quality fast monochrome printing, but also to meet the user's versatility needs. Multi-function printers are generally used in the short-run fast commercial printing field.

Foreign multi-purpose offset printing presses have also been classified into the category of light monochromators. Currently, there are almost all manufacturers of small-format offset presses that are producing such equipment. The most famous ones are Ryobi and Hamada.

At present, the well-known manufacturers of multifunctional offset presses in the Chinese market are Wei Haibin, Yingkou Guanhua, Weihai Printing Machines, Weifang Huaguang, Beiren Second Printing Machine, and Beijing Diversified. These five companies occupy the domestic multi-functional small 80% of the offset press market share.

About heavy commercial small offset presses:
The heavy commercial small offset press is a pure commercial small-format printing press, which has the structural features of a large printing press, and adopts Feida paper feeding structure for continuous paper feeding, in particular, the paper conveying structure adopts the transfer paper tooth row to pass the printing. High speed, good print quality, able to meet the needs of a variety of user functions, is the ideal equipment for commercial short-run fast printing.

Currently, the world's only manufacturers of heavy-duty offset presses are Heidelberg in Germany, Ryobi in Japan, Hamada in Japan, Ebara in Japan, Rota in Germany, and Adast in Czech Republic. The heavy-duty small-format offset press itself is A high-end printing press.

There are not many manufacturers that produce such high-end heavy-duty printers in China.
