I absolutely adore creating stained glass projects with kids—it’s one of my favorite crafts because it's incredibly quick, mess-free, and adds an instant pop of brightness to any space. This year, I was looking to try something fresh for the holidays, and the idea of holly leaves and berries struck me as super festive.
### Materials Needed for Holly Sun Catchers
To get started, here’s what you’ll need:
- Clear contact paper (sticky back plastic)
- Tissue paper in green and red
- Black card or paper
### Steps to Create Holly Sun Catchers
1. Begin by cutting the black paper into holly leaf shapes and rounded berry forms.
2. Next, cut a piece of contact paper slightly larger than the leaf template.
3. Peel off the backing and secure the corners to the table to keep it from rolling up.
4. Tear or cut the tissue paper into small pieces.
This activity is fantastic for helping kids refine their fine motor skills. Once the leaf shape is fully covered with tissue paper, trim the edges of the contact paper and stick it onto a window.
When arranged in a leaf pattern around a window, it looks absolutely stunning. It’s also a great collaborative project where each child can contribute a leaf, which then comes together to form a larger, cohesive design.
