It is not easy to faithfully reproduce colors with printing methods. Because the general four-color printing and copying technology has certain limitations, the color gamut range of the copied color is affected by the printing method, the combination of paper and ink, and the need for a full-tone picture of the copying technology, it must be converted to half Toned pictures can be printed. These factors greatly weaken the color gamut of the copied colors.
Colorists have been conducting research for a long time to find a complete color reproduction method. In offset printing, they add another layer of color on the ordinary four-color printing (C, Y, M, K) to make five-color printing; another layer of color is added to six-color printing; even seven-color printing print. These additional colors, of course, expand the color gamut of the copied colors, but what color is suitable?
Early, in the era of color separation using plate-making cameras, some artistic drawings and portrait photos have been printed in six colors; in addition to C, M, Y, and K, pink and light blue are added to increase green, purple and skin colors .
In experiments and research, the color characteristics of the original image can be accommodated. In addition to C, M, Y, K, supplement with other special colors, such as gray, silver or gold, etc.
Industrial production requires a standardized method. Pantone has developed a color system called "Hexachrome", namely C, M, Y, K plus green and orange. Pantone provides a set of software called HexImage, which can separate the scanned image and then set Input typesetting software such as PageMaker and QuarkXpress to output color separation film. For six-color printing, unless a six-color printing machine is used, the printing time increases. In addition, consumption of materials such as paper and ink has also increased. Therefore, it is rarely used unless specifically requested by the customer. Moreover, with the current technological advancement, high-density network cables (such as 200 lpi, etc.) or other screening methods (such as FM networks, etc.) can be used to make the general standard four-color printing also achieve a highly realistic effect.
However, when copying some special colors, if you use "colour build" instead of spotcolour, the six-color color can provide more color effects.
