Pre-press image pre-check

In printing production, do we often encounter the situation that the printing cannot follow the customer's color draft?

With the increasing maturity and improvement of the prepress digitalization process, more and more manuscripts received by the prepress production department in commercial printing are electronic files. PDF files are the most common of these electronic files, which are standard and stable unit files in accordance with printing. Of course, there are also files that are typeset-connected and scattered, such as Founder Feiteng, Quark, Pagemaker, Indesign, etc. In addition, file formats such as PS are also the original documents that printing plants often encounter. And some of these electronic manuscripts often also carry customer digital manuscripts or sample books. Generally speaking, the pre-press production department of the printing house will organize these different types of file formats into suitable file formats suitable for the factory's pre-press process, such as PS or PDF file format, and then pass through the pre-press workstation, such as Founder. , And then printing standardization, color conversion, trapping, typesetting, etc., finally Rip, and then published.

When there are customer manuscripts, such as digital manuscripts, and the printing color is required to follow the digital manuscript as much as possible, the inspection of electronic manuscripts before printing becomes particularly important. Now for the standard PDF or PS file, use Prefight pre-flying inspection software to check the trapping, image format, trapping, font, image resolution, color profile, etc. in the file to confirm the content of the file Comply with printing standards.

Color pre-check before printing

For electronic files of different customers, and accompanying digital proofs with color, will the printing plant print according to their own printing standards and will follow the customer's color manuscript, what effect can the color effect achieve? Because the color pre-inspection was not done, the embarrassment that the printing could not keep up with the color draft to the printing factory was found after printing on the machine. In order to solve such problems, it is necessary to pre-check the color draft of the customer. This will be an indispensable part of the overall color management of the printing plant.

To carry out the pre-inspection of the printing color, it is necessary for the printing factory to make a pre-inspection proofing or evaluation of the color effect of the customer's electronic manuscript in the printing standard or printing state of the factory. In order to make electronic manuscripts and digital manuscripts for different customers, make corresponding color processing in advance to achieve the best color matching. In actual production, customers have different requirements for printing plants and colors. According to the simulation of different manuscripts, printing plants can choose different color pre-inspection methods. This takes into account both cost and customer satisfaction with color. After all, economic benefits make the lifeblood of an enterprise alive.

Epson inkjet digital manuscripts are the most common customer manuscripts in commercial printing plants. Of course, laser manuscripts are also used as printing and coloring. For the quality and effect of uneven manuscripts, as well as the simulated printing effects, if they are not pre-pressed before proofing and color pre-checking, the printing color effect will be inestimable.

In many cases, the digital drafts from customers come with bright colors and bright colors; sometimes they look like the laser drafts are dull and weak, and the overall color is gray or color. Encounter these guest originals must be color pre-checked. The following is a brief introduction to the common problems of several methods of pre-press color pre-checking.

The first one is to print out digital manuscripts for electronic files and digital color manuscripts that follow customers' colors. But this has higher requirements for digital proofing in printing houses. First, the printing plant should test the color characteristics of the printing press according to certain standard specifications and conditions according to certain printing standards, such as national standard, SWOP, GRACOL, etc., and collect the color of the printing press under the standard printing state as the printing of the entire printing plant. Color profile. As everyone knows, the color gamut space of general monitors and the uncalibrated color gamut space of digital proofing are larger than the ordinary four-color printing gamut space, and the final color effect of the pre-press image must be achieved with printing colors. Therefore, when calibrating colors before printing, we must choose the color characteristic file of our factory or close to our factory for four-color printing to pre-display or as the printing source file to be printed. Such digital proofing is meaningful and reliable for pre-inspection. At the same time, for the digital proofs used for pre-press pre-check colors, color calibration should be done regularly and the difference between the digital samples and the printed samples should be compared to follow up the color catching effect of printing.

The second way is to use screen soft proofing and color proofing. This is the most practical method for color correction. Judging from the test results of soft proofing, the use of soft proofing as printing proofs is still in the exploration stage in China, and it is still to be developed to use it to replace digital proofs. However, it is still possible to use screen soft proofing to check the color pre-check of the customer's electronic manuscript under the factory's printing color characteristics. The premise of this screen soft proofing for pre-press color pre-checking is:

1. Customers have higher requirements for printing colors, and colors should be as similar as possible.
2. The display used for soft proofing is best to use an industry-approved display like EIZO. Ordinary displays are not realistic for screen soft proofing. Nor can it meet the requirements of pre-press color inspection before printing.
3. The monitor should be calibrated and evaluated regularly, and the color characteristic file should be accurately printed for color pre-display.
4. When comparing the soft proofing color with the customer color draft, observe the ambient light source of the customer color draft to be measured.

Therefore, for an image with a color profile, in the actual production process, there is an electronic file with an ICC color profile, and the digital proofing is closer to the color containing the ICC Profile. You can process the image in the above two ways to perform color conversion In order to ensure the true color reproduction of the image.

The above two methods are more suitable for the current commercial pre-press color pre-inspection. This is an indispensable step and link when customers have certain requirements for printing and color.

Traditional wet draft color pre-check

Now many customers who have spot color proofing and are skeptical about digital drafting still use traditional drafting methods. For traditional drafts submitted by customers, color proofing should mainly check whether the consistency of documents and customer drafts is normal with traditional drafts. Checking the consistency of customer drafts and electronic files is mainly because some customers' drafting is not the final effect but only the color confirmation, or the format has been changed. The normality of traditional drafting is mainly to check that the density of the draft is uniform and normal, whether there is ghosting, or dirty. The difference in traditional drafting is uneven, and the difference is large, or there is partial ghosting. During normal printing and typesetting, high-density unevenness is arranged or different leaf files with or without ghosting are arranged on the same ink road. It is difficult to print accurately. All color drafts. In addition, for traditional drafts submitted by customers, you must carefully check the publishing method of the drafts. If it is a film printing, whether the reproduction of the small outlets matches the small outlets published by CTP must also be checked. Therefore, this kind of traditional drafting must be carefully checked before printing on the machine. If customers who have high requirements for printing color, they must communicate in advance when they encounter abnormal drafting to ensure that the color can be followed during printing. The color is accurate and the customer is satisfied.
