Modern cities are dominated by reinforced concrete structures, and glass curtain walls have become a common choice for the exterior facades of high-rise buildings. One of the key advantages of glass curtain walls is their ability to combine architectural aesthetics, functionality, energy efficiency, and structural integrity seamlessly. As light changes throughout the day, the building’s appearance transforms, creating a dynamic and visually appealing effect. But how exactly are these curtain walls installed? What are the costs involved? Let’s explore the details with our expert team.
**Glass Curtain Wall Installation Method:**
1. Use instruments such as laser theodolites, spirit levels, and plumb bobs to mark the center positions of connection points between the frame material and the main structure, ensuring accuracy within ±1.0mm.
2. For component curtain walls made of tempered or insulated glass that cannot be cut on-site, measure the actual dimensions of the glass in advance. If there's a mismatch with the design, adjust the center position of the connection point or customize the glass according to the actual size of the frame.
3. Secure the connecting pieces at the marked positions, ensuring they are firmly fastened to maintain stability.
4. Install unitized curtain walls from the bottom up, while component curtain walls should be installed from top to bottom.
5. After connecting the element curtain wall frames or unitized curtain wall units, inspect and correct any misalignments before welding the joints to the embedded parts of the main structure (including anchor bolts).
6. Seal the gaps between unitized curtain walls using V-shaped or W-shaped rubber strips. Ensure the seals are tightly packed without any gaps.
7. Follow the design drawings when installing component curtain walls. Once the glass is in place, fix it to the frame using embedded materials like rubber gaskets. Avoid temporary fixes or floating installations.
8. Each side of the glass should have a single piece of rubber strip, with breaks at the corners. The rubber strips should be properly aligned and flat.
9. Apply sealant outside the rubber strips correctly. Avoid using acetate-based silicone glue on coated glass surfaces.
10. Leave all gaps—between units, between frame materials, and between frames and glass—according to the design specifications.
11. Ensure uniformity in the gaps between curtain wall units and between the glass of hidden curtain walls, following the design requirements.
12. After welding galvanized connectors, remove the coating and apply two layers of anti-rust paint to damaged areas. All materials in contact with aluminum profiles must comply with design specifications to prevent corrosion and avoid direct contact with cement mortar.
13. Install lightning protection systems and follow the design instructions for all construction nodes, including fire protection and closing nodes.
14. Use a cleaning solution that is safe for aluminum, glass, and sealants. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning to avoid residue.
