Longevity is an extreme aging phenomenon that exists objectively in the population. Long-lived elderly people, especially centenarians, can often escape or delay the common aging-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, the probability of aging-related diseases in their offspring is significantly lower than that of the general population. The study believes that the heritability of longevity is about 25%. Although some studies have found a series of genetic mutation sites related to longevity, most of the sites are not repeated in different populations. One of the important reasons is ethnic differences. .
The research group of the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, He Yongzhen and Yu Xiang, selected 18 single nucleotide polymorphisms with potential correlations with longevity, and 567 elderly and 508 elderly people in Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province, China. Further studies were conducted in a young control. The results showed that the rs13217795 of the FOXO3 gene and the rs189037 site of the ATM gene were significantly correlated with the longevity phenotype. More importantly, the study found for the first time that the rs11977526 locus of insulin-like growth factor receptor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) was significantly associated with longevity. FOXO3 and IGFBP-3 are important components of the insulin/insulin-like growth factor receptor signaling pathway, and ATM is significantly associated with oxidative stress levels in the body.
This study further demonstrates the important role of insulin signaling pathways and oxidative stress in affecting longevity. The results of the study were recently published in the international core journal Aging in the field of aging.
