Hi Doctor,
I have just started an e-Bay business, which I hope to grow, selling nail varnish removers. The remover comes in a small 150ml plastic bottle; I want it to look professional and be protected to ensure it doesn't leak. Should I go for a box, bag or mailer?
Many Thanks, Carys

Hi Carys,

Congratulations on starting your new business—there’s a huge demand for beauty products on eBay, so I’m sure your products will sell well. However, when dealing with small bottles like the ones you mentioned, one of the biggest challenges is ensuring they stay secure and don’t leak during transit.

Plastic bottles, especially those with thin walls, can easily crack or break if not properly packaged. This can lead to messy leaks and unhappy customers. To keep your product looking professional and intact, I recommend using a small, sturdy box. A single-wall cardboard box should be more than enough for a 150ml bottle.

Once you’ve chosen your box, wrap the bottle in bubble wrap to add a layer of protection. This helps prevent movement inside the box and reduces the risk of damage. You can also use tissue paper to make the packaging look more attractive and give it that premium feel. If you're looking for a more modern and cost-effective solution in the long run, consider using air cushions instead of bubble wrap. They provide excellent protection and are easier to store, though they do require an initial investment in an air cushioning machine.

Another great option is to use white Arofol envelopes. These are lightweight, space-saving, and ideal for small items. Pair them with a Kraft outer layer for a stylish and professional appearance. They’re also more affordable than many other packaging options.

Whatever you choose, make sure the packaging is both functional and visually appealing. First impressions matter, especially online. And remember, a little extra care in packing can go a long way in building customer trust and satisfaction.

Good luck with your new venture, Carys. I'm sure you'll do great!
