The printing team responsible for the opening ceremony program of this year's Youth Olympic Games shared some insights, revealing, "The Youth Olympic Organizing Committee gave us just three days to print over 60,000 copies, each with 72 pages."
While the massive volume of printing in such a short time was no small task, it wasn't the most challenging part of the project. "The real challenge was matching the colors of all the national flags on the program," said one of the printers. "Each flag needed to be vibrant, rich, and highly saturated. Normally, we use four-color process printing, but that didn’t work here. The result wasn’t close enough to the actual flag colors. So, we custom-mixed a specific color for each country’s flag, which allowed us to achieve an almost perfect match."
Another key highlight of the program was its eco-friendly design. "We used 100% recycled paper, which feels soft and pleasant to the touch," the printer explained. "Even the inks—both black and colored—are made from vegetable oil that's safe and non-toxic. There are absolutely no chemical additives involved."
As for the closing ceremony program, it is expected to have around 68 pages and will be finalized by August 17th. The entire printing process is scheduled to be completed by August 20th. However, the team emphasized, "This is still just a preliminary plan, and there could be changes as we move forward."
Overall, the project not only showcased technical precision but also a strong commitment to sustainability, making it a unique and memorable part of the Youth Olympic experience.
