Vickers Victorinox, the iconic Swiss manufacturer of army knives, has a rich history dating back to 1884—over 130 years ago. In 1989, the brand made its first foray into timepieces with the introduction of the Swiss Army Knife watch, marking a significant milestone in its legacy. This year, Vickers is celebrating two major anniversaries and launching two new models: the rugged Inox sports watch line and a limited edition dive watch, available in just 500 pieces worldwide.
The Inox collection pays tribute to the 130-year heritage of Vickers, highlighting the deep connection between the brand’s original Swiss Army Knife and its latest timepiece innovation. "Inox" is the French word for stainless steel, a material that has been central to both blade manufacturing and watchmaking at Vickers. These watches are built to last, designed to withstand extreme conditions. They have been tested by being dropped from 10 meters onto concrete, surviving under the weight of a 64-ton tank, and enduring two hours of exposure to sandstorms and washing machines. Additionally, they can handle temperature extremes ranging from -51°C to +71°C and endure acceleration forces up to 12 Gs. Even more impressively, the Inox model passed rigorous tests with corrosive substances like gasoline, solvents, cleaning agents, and pesticides.
The new Vickers Inox watch features a 43mm case, water resistance up to 200 meters, and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The dial comes in black, navy blue, and khaki green, paired with a single-seam rubber strap. Instead of traditional inlays, the hour markers are engraved using a mechanical imprinting process. The hands and links have undergone extensive finishing, while the lugs are reinforced with cross bars to prevent warping. A slight raised bezel protects the crystal and crown, and the date window is positioned at 4:30. Powered by a Swiss Ronda Quartz 715 movement, this watch is priced at $525 and will be available for purchase in September 2014.
